I’m the owner of South Wales Dog Training Academy offering dog training and behaviour consultations.
I specialise in 1) Puppies, how to raise them correctly and how to avoid common problems. I ensure that their guardians have the knowledge and skills to grow their puppy into a great pet dog.
2) Reactive dogs, those that show aggressive behaviour towards other dogs. I coach the guardians in understanding why their dog is behaving this way and how to modify the behaviour effectively.
3) Confidence building in puppies and dogs that are a little worried about the world. I coach the guardians on how to do this kindly using novel items and positive experiences.
I’m all about positive, fear free, reward based training which is effective, fun and builds great relationships between dogs and their families.
Animals are a huge part of my life and I couldn’t be without them. I spent my earlier employment days in the equine industry as a Veterinary Nurse, then as a Yard Manager of an Agricultural College.
I am owned by Bear, a 2yr old German Shepherd cross and Dipstick, a 10 yr old Jack Russell cross.
I have only ever shared my life with rescue puppies and dogs, usually with behavioural problems. The first was a troubled adolescent German Shepherd who completely changed my life. It was because of her that I sought answers to solve her issues as the advice I was getting used punishments and the debunked dominance theory. I self studied and learnt how to change behaviour through proven, ethical, scientific methods. These are the methods I use today as a qualified trainer and behaviour consultant with the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) and IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers). I’m also a registered member of the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) and an owner member of the Pet Professional Guild (PPG).
